I’ve been meaning to blog this site for a couple weeks now. A photo site that truly lets the photos do the heavy lifting. So often online photo galleries are full of Flash cruft muddying up the images themselves. Not The Big Picture which presents a photo a day that, on my MacBook screen, fills the browser from end-to-end.

The new logo is insane. It’s like it has a giant asterisk on it. You expect, below, in fine print for it to read: *ps. we suck. They should roll back to the one from ‘64. It held strong for just shy of 20 years. Plus, who doesn’t like woodtype?

One of my book cover designs, for Joe Meno’s wonderful Hairstyles of the Damned, was just named #17 of the top 25 book covers of the last 25 years by Entertainment Weekly. It’s a surprise and an honor for everyone involved.

Considering that it was shot against a $25 backdrop, the model was a woman who worked at a coffee shop down the street from the office, and the photographer was the only person I knew with a photo light (and he only had one), it’s a pretty amazing aknowlegement that you can do a lot with a little.
